A little something for myself, as a break from all the commissions I've been doing lately. My OC Captain, a self-proclaimed criminal and something of a military genius.
A Governor's son, Captain grew up watching his dad get away with all sorts of nasty crimes. His dad was scumbag who exploited the populace and squashed anyone who got in his way, all while maintaining an appearance of righteousness and legitimacy that made him immensely popular among the people he was mistreating. Captain was destined to become Governor himself, but the boy was so terrified of growing corrupt that he decided to just jump the gun and become a criminal before that could happen. Ya, nobody else sees the logic in that either Captain is far from being an idealist - rather than seeking to reform society (an endeavor he considers futile), he hopes to fight evil with evil, replacing violent crime and disorder with more controlled, organized crime. He's afraid of his military abilities and his potential as a "good-guy" leader because he fears that, if given legitimate power and trust, he would exploit it. He takes himself a bit too seriously for his own good, and his laid-back villainy sometimes devolves into belligerent grumpiness when he is teased or when his beliefs are successfully challenged. He really could make a positive difference in the world if he would just give himself the chance. Too bad he's already given up on that angle...
Remind me a little of the captain in Doctor Who. (who is the suicide king too, because he can't die)
