Toph is, in my opinion, one of the most under-used characters in Avatar. I mean, here we have a girl who's a human-lie detector, is able to sense danger approaching a mile away, and is the most powerful earthbender in the known world. She's saved everyone's sorry behind at one time or another, and I sincerely doubt that ANY avatar fan questions her ability to kick total ass.

And yet, what do we really know about her? She's tough, and she loves to fight. She resents her rich, sheltered up-bringing, and she enjoys getting down in the dirt...literally. But what else? There's so much more to Toph buried far under the surface, and we've yet to see it in the series. In my mind, the closest we get to seeing Toph's other side is in the episode "Tales of Ba Sing Se", when she and Katara take a trip to the spa. I think there's a lot more to Toph, hidden just out of reach behind the facade of tough nonchalance.

So interpret this picture however you will. I'm not sure who she's talking to...maybe Sokka...maybe Aang...maybe someone else...you pick. The question is the same.

"You never looked my way before. Maybe now you will. Tell me, do I look different to you? Am I beautiful?"
